Defend your Brand within 30 important Social Media platforms

Listen up brand managers, have you have been trying to get your organization to expirement social media? Have your efforts been unsuccessful? Well it’s time to reverse the conversation, and explain to your organization that you need to defend your brand and marks within the social media world. If you don’t grab your brand name on the various social media services out there, someone else will, and effectively Hijack your efforts. And the people who register your brand may (read: definitely will) say things that could damage your organization. I implore you, for the next 48 hours, take some time out of your busy day and register your brands and trademarks on the various different services. Hats off to our excellent PR firm Perkett (and their Blog), a my behest they put a list of the top 30 social media sites that you need to register your brands on.

I do not see this happening… Seeing as how the chinese gold farming operations work, it is

nearly impossible for China to pull this off. Sites such as www.mmogsale.com are USA based and

the games they sell are USA based, granted a majority of the supply there is from players in the

USA some comes from China gold farms… if China is going to ban they are going to focus on

domestic games to China, however the level of corruption in China at a local level is insane so

for the State wide government to do this they have to get through the corrupt local government…

All I can say is good luck!

So this is a lot of stuff to do. Wouldn't it be better to focus on a couple that are particularly relevant to your company/brand and leverage API and customization to try to leverage and derive value out of their audience? If you are just staking claim of your brand on each of these and don't have time or resources to fully leverage them, wouldn't it degrade your brand. i.e. just throw up a myspace page and not customize it.....wouldn't that possibly make you look less integrated in social media and a stodgier brand?
  • serj
no, because some platforms are more popular in some countrys and others not, or some platforms promote better a brand that offers servicice in the graphic design/ web design area.
  • scotthoffman
The ideal scenario is the one that allows you to fully leverage the community you register your brands on, but the truth is that you may not have the time and/or capital to do that. But brands must secure brand names from both a defensive posture, i.e. someone grabbing your brand name(s) and for future efforts when they do want to start an effort in the community. The risk of being viewed as brand that secured it's name, but isn't participating is not as great as the risk of some renegade posing as your brand and giving out detrimental messages.

valid point. better to know than leave yourself vulnerable. thanks!
